12/12/2014 ITALY AND INDONESIA SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON INDUSTRIAL COOPERATION

New impulse to the bilateral relations between Italy and Indonesia. Representatives of the Parties signed today a framework agreement on the development of industrial sectors.

It is indeed the first Memorandum signed by the newly appointed Minister of Industry Saleh Husin since his assignment last October 20 and it confirms the new working pace of the Jokowi’s Government whose mission is to develop the industrial sector of the Country. Italy has therefore been selected as a strategic partner for the technology development of the manufacturing industry in Indonesia.


The Memorandum will last for eight years and intends to increase the collaboration between public and private actors of the industrial sector, strengthen and develop existing infrastructures facilities in the Country also trough the professional training tool, and increase all possible forms of cooperation, from industrial research to the exchange of expertise including participation to conferences and seminars.


The Parties will initially work at the modernization of the Technology Centre for Textile in Bandung and for the Footwear Centre in Surabaya, in collaboration with the relevant Italian Association, namely ACIMIT and ASSOMAC which have already realized exploring missions on the sites.


The negotiation of this Memorandum is one of the concrete actions that took place soon after the Italian economic delegation visited Indonesia in May 2013, during which the possibility of the cooperation among Administrations and Associations of the Parties in the textile, footwear/leather, industrial and automotive spare parts and new materials industry emerged, and without limiting the cooperation to the sectors identified in case the Parties may want to explore new industrial fields.
