On Monday 21 June, on the occasion of the Music Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will present Music For Uncertain Times, a project to promote Italian music abroad. It consists of three video episodes broadcast by the foreign network of Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes and on the Vimeo channel of italiana, the Ministry’s portal dedicated to promoting the Italian language, culture and creativity around the world. Commissioned by Farnesina, written by Andrea Lai and directed by Francesco Coppola, the project consists of three exclusive, previously unreleased musical performances recorded by leading figures in contemporary Italian songwriting in places that represent the country’s cultural heritage: Francesca Michielin and Vasco Brondi at the Museo del Novecento in Milan, Fiorella Mannoia and Clementino at the Castel dell’Ovo in Naples and La Rappresentante di Lista at Palazzo Butera in Palermo.

Music For Uncertain Times is built as a dialogue between music, cultural heritage and film language. The performances take place in three architectural gems: the oldest castle in Naples, one of the most recently built museums in Milan, a monumental complex that is the symbol of Palermo. Contemporary Italian pop is the protagonist, with three exclusive live performances in new versions. The musical moments are then followed by reflections on music in these uncertain times through the words of the artists who were interviewed immediately after the performances.

available free of charge exclusively on italiana from 21 June, 2021 Music Day
